Here’s how the education mafias have wronged millions of students like me!
My father spent lakhs to help me prepare for IIT-JEE.
I was told to focus only on Physics, Chemistry and Maths. I obliged and ignored my 5th subject — IP(Information Practices) where we were taught about programming, Java, Databases — SQL and Web development.
I could not clear the entrance exam. Hence had to enroll in a private university.
My father spent over 16L for my engineering degree in Computer Science. I was finally free from the boring subjects and was excited about new things I’ll get to learn. Guess what we were taught in the first year!
- Biology — Why again?
- Chemistry -
- EVS? Didn’t the school curriculum serve the purpose?
- Basics of Civil, Mechanical and Biomedical engineering.
96 subjects, 300 exams later, I somehow cleared engineering. A graduate in Computer Science engineering cannot write a single line of code today!
What now? Job? 4 years later I realized I had learned nothing new. Have I failed myself, am I the only one responsible for this?
I looked around and found 1000s of students just like me. Lost and failed. Many of them ended up taking jobs which were nowhere related to what they had studied in school or in engineering.
Nobody around me is doing what they were taught all their lives. Why aren’t we learnings skills that matter? I don’t know what is wrong with the Indian education system, but I am one among the million + victims.
Me? I currently run Stoned Santa which is an art based startup from NSRCEL, IIM-Bangalore and I wish I had the 16L for my startup rather than the college.
