How I improved my Mental and Physical Health in 6 months?
6 months ago, I was skinny; today, I am not.
6 months ago, I was the Founder of a startup; today, I am not.
6 months back, I hoped corona takes me away(not to the quarantine center :P), and today I look forward to living life with a re-instated sense of purpose.
In these 6 months, I transitioned from being broken, lost, and hopeless in finding back the energy and hoping to look for a new path, and adventure.
I will tell you how I did. I fought the darkest of my mental demons, and I am writing this, hoping that this helps someone hoping to find hope.
Step 0 — Believe that you can improve.
6 months back, I did not have a goal in mind; I just wanted to improve and get out of the dark and miserable place I was stuck at.
Popular advice usually recommends — “Find a reason to improve, and then work accordingly.”
But when I was challenged with the darkest of my days, I was crippled, lost my identity, and had run out of Hope; the only thing I ever wanted was to improve and get out of this darkness.
Step 1 — Pat yourself on the back for wanting to Improve.
More often than not, we blame ourselves and live under the guilt of not executing our self-expectations. Still, I believe that it’s vital that we acknowledge our efforts for wanting to improve.
Reminding myself that I want to improve and congratulating myself on this thought really worked for me, and it helped me find hope and positivity when I couldn’t find any.
Step 2 — Find an Anchor Habit, and track it.
When I was lost, broken, and had run out of hope, the only thing that helped me recover was the tiny habit of bowing down and offering water to the sun.
I picked this anchor habit, all thanks to my mum, and I think with time, this little habit of mine helped me find balance, and slowly I started liking this habit.
This went on for a few days, and with time, I was able to add another Anchor Habit, which went on for a few days and then add another anchor habit.
This is a snapshot of one of my trackers; as you can see, there are many Crosses, but I kept at it, and with time I got better.
I tracked everything I wanted to improve, and I also tracked every habit I wanted to get rid of, and I am still trying :P
You could choose any habit that can be your anchor habit, but the idea is that you should stick to this habit every day and do it without fail.
Step 3 — Compound Growth/Interest
Quitting my startup broke my heart, and I realized I had taken my startup for granted, and I was no longer working as hard every day. I would work hard, but it would be in impulses, and honestly, that led me nowhere.
For a long time, I kept asking myself, “Why did I have to quit after having worked so hard for 1000 days on my startup?”
Why did I have to QUIT? What could I have done better? Was it Corona that took my business away, or was it something else? Was it because I wasn’t consistent enough?
How do I harness the power of compound growth?
The only thing I could do to harness this superpower was to embark upon the #1000DayChallenge, where I will constantly push myself out of my comfort zone for 1000 days straight in the pursuit to become a better version of myself.
I am on Day 29 of this challenge, and I look forward to the next great adventure in life.
If I could improve, so can you. All I needed was Hope, and if you have hope in your heart, everything else will follow.
I hope you find value in this answer, and I hope you have a great day; if you’re interested in joining me in the challenge, drop in an 🍎 in the comments.
PS — I think I added a little hair too. Do you guys think so too?
